Chile defeated Portugal on penalties (3-0) at Kazan Arena in the semi-final match.

A quote by Arturo Vidal in the build-up to the Chile and Portugal Confederations Cup semi-final added some spice to the mix when it was reported that Vidal referred to Ronaldo as a "smart ass" or someone who is cocky.

IBTimes UK has compiled the best Twitter reactions to the 34-year-old's penalty saves as he bounced back from a horrid season in Manchester.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos said: "In the first 20 minutes we were better.then Chile balanced the game in the last 20 minutes of the first half".

When and where is the match? It has been a balanced attack for El Tri, with a different player scoring each of their six goals so far in the tournament. It will be seeking its first title outside of South America after winning the Copa America in 2015 and 2016, both times in penalty kick shoot-outs.

"One of the things we really value is that our game plan uses every single player. He is doing it very well".

The good news for Jose Fonte on Wednesday is the fact that he looks set to remain a starter for Portugal beyond the Confederations Cup, as Pepe possibly fades to the background with Bruno Alves remaining the other centerback.

"Claudio was amazing, the players who scored their penalties were amazing, and I think we deserve to be in the final", said Juan Antonio Pizzi, Chile's coach.

If they are triumphant in the final, Chile will become only the fourth nation to win the eight-team event, after four-time champions Brazil, twice winners France and 1999 victors Mexico.

Ronaldo saw more of the ball than Sanchez, but neither of them stamped their authority on the game which had few chances at goal.
